Doors Open Rhode Island – PPAC

Saturday Doors Open RI arranged for the public opening of the Providence Performing Arts Center where plus of 1545 people came through the doors between 1 and 3pm. The event featured the open stage area as well as the back stage with its nook and crannies. The projection booth area at the top of the theater now houses the spotlights used for live performances. Lines for the projection area were long due to the narrowness of the area made rationing the number of people allowed in at any one time. The theater’s 5 level keyboard organ was present on stage ass their organist treated visitors to many a musical theme. Children were invited to sit next to him on the bench and play. One young lad, in particular, showed his talent playing “Phantom of the Opera” flawlessly. Access was also provided to the dressing room area where one found cramped hallways and walls covered with art drawn by past troupe companies. I found this the most interesting of this open house. The majority of the art was hand painted with the occassional poster. Some images of this art will be posted later here.
All in all an very enjoyable event. Once again Caroline Stevens, founder of Doors Open, plus the volunteers and sponsors of Doors Open Rhode Island created an event of interest to citizens. This ongoing community project is a wonderful addition to the promotion of areas of interest within RI. Their web page is https://www.doorsopenri.org/.
